The only usb3 to 3.5mm dongle that I have had the less issues with is the Apple dongle . Samsung has been out of stock for years. How hard can it be to bring back the 3.5mm head phone jack. I am do for a upgrade at the end of the year, there is a good possibility I will look at other phone brands

I mentioned this somewhere else here, thought maybe I should make a full post about it. I bought the official Samsung USB C to 3.5mm dongle about a year or two ago. I didn't want Bluetooth to be my only option due to questionable quality, and codec issues. Out of the box it was defective. Not fit for purpose. There was an annoying whining sound, and a static sound, especially when listening at low volumes. I expected high quality sound from this, to make up for the fact that some id!0t at Samsung decided to follow Apple in ditching the 3.5mm jack. What I got was more *****. My old S7 with 3.5mm sounds better. It also didn't work with the UHQ Upscaler so I doubt it is even 192/24 as claimed. I would've been better off getting one of those cheap dongles off Aliexpress, at least they have Cirrus Logic chips. I was told to send feedback about this using the Samsung members app. Never replied. Got deleted after a year.

Hi.

This is a customer to customer based forum.

People can maybe only recommend products that they find work for them.
If that is the reason for your post.
Otherwise Feedback is via the support tab on the Members APP.

Bluetooth is the way .
Not just bluetooth the problem in that post.

I dont know if you noticed, but there was only one sentence about Bluetooth in that post.

I specifically made this post to tell of the problems with Samsung's 3.5mm adapter, which should be a reasonable alternative to Bluetooth considering they stupidly followed Apple in removing the 3.5mm socket.

And no. I do not recommended people buy this adapter.

And bluetooth isn't the only way. USB C on Samsung devices can do high definition audio with USB audio class devices.

I know this because I tried it with the USB to SPDIF adapter I use with my laptop, and I could activate the UHQ upscaler.

Their 3.5mm adapter is useless. I would be better off getting one of those dongles with Cirrus Logic chips off Aliexpress if it wasn't for the potential customs issues.

Or you can buy a USB C bluetooth adapter from 1Mii to use with aptx high definition receivers. That adapter is a USB audio class device too. But it's stupid that you even need that considering aptx HD is in the AOSP code.

Well maybe use a smaller size you can use am adapter with easily like 2.5mm. Or send analog audio through extra pins in the USB C. Some phones do that. Because it's analog it's easy to use an adapter to 3.5mm for that connection as well.

I found a good dongle by FIIO BTW. It uses a Cirrus chip like the Apple adapter, but it also has a built in headphone amp chip. It also supports DSD if you want that. I thought buying this was a better idea than the apple one anyway because of Android compatibility. No issues so far, and it sounds incredible with any music.

And Bluetooth is part of the problem. Manufacturers want us all to use wireless Bluetooth headphones, in spite of Bluetooth's limitations. This all started with Apple. It's probably because they want more ecosystem limitations, vendor lock in. If they had their way this is what would things would be like. For best quality you would need a phone and Bluetooth headphones from the same manufacturer. Samsung must have turned off AptX-HD support intentionally, because it is freely available in the Android AOSP code now.

On the other hand USB C audio doesn't need compression codecs such as AptX, SBC or AAC due to the high speed capability of USB-C. So no need for any proprietary codecs either which might or might not work properly depending on device ecosystem. No vendor lock in. No walled garden. You can send standard, uncompressed, full quality PCM audio straight out of the USB socket.
