OneUI 8 - Linux terminal not working

I’ve read many threads about the Linux terminal on Android 16 with OneUI 8, but none of them really provide a clear answer.

I heard that the Linux environment currently doesn’t work on Samsung devices because of issues with Knox, which blocks the VM, but supposedly that was solved since it works on some Samsung models? Then I also heard that the problem lies with Snapdragon itself, as it doesn’t support non-protected VMs.

The Linux terminal is such a powerful feature for power users that it’s almost a deal-breaker for me. Is there a chance that this feature will be fully supported on Snapdragon-based Samsung devices, especially older ones like the ?

It doesn’t work on OneUI 8, so maybe 8.5?

As of current, the android 16 terminal doesn't work on samsung devices. Third party terminal apps from the play store do work, though they are more limited.

It also doesn't work on the official android emulator. So I haven't personally gotten it working on anything yet

In developers options in Android 16 there's an experimental option to enable Linux development environment to run a Linux terminal.

Do you need it to be running native (I understand this would be ideal ans something I'm after too) or would a 3rd party VM work as I've used a couple on my S24U (Free Userland or Paid NOMone Desktop on the playstore) Had a play with Turmux in the past as well from F Driod.

On my S24+ device, I also don't have access to this new feature. Does Samsung plan to add it? It's unacceptable that not all features from the base Android version are available. I hope it gets added, otherwise a Google Pixel would be a better choice for a new phone than Samsung.

Down load adb on your computer.

Same issue on S21 FE - the Linux Terminal option is only available through settings search (should be in Developer Settings, but it doesn't show up when I open it directly).

The toggle is greyed out:

Hello to all in this forum !

I've a Samsung Tab S9, with One UI 8.0 with Android 16 and I don't see the Linux developer environment option in my developer settings as well. I'm currently very interested in this feature and I would like to know when this option will be available to us.

Please if you also have more informations about this feature, I will be please to have some such as : currents devices compatible, hardware constraints, date of later updates that could brings it, and else...
