Using alias email addresses in Samsung Email App

I was previously able have Samsung Email use an alias email address, associated to my mailbox and authorized by my email provider(AOL), by specifying the alias as my email address in the Samsung Email email account configuration. This no longer works as of this week. Either the Samsung App is using my alias as the username instead of my specified user name or Samsung Email is incorrectly connecting to AOL's authentication service. AOL allows for a few alias using the following domains: aol.com, aim.com, and netscape.net. All of these domains use imap.aol.com and smtp.aol.com. Please note that I can set up Samsung using my main email address (not the alias) but I can't configure Samsung Email to send mail using my alias instead, after the configuration is made.

Is there a known way to configure Samsung Email to use an alias email address?

Samsung, in the next version of Samsung Email app, please allow us to change the email address (alias) used for existing email accounts configured in the Samsung Email app. If I were permitted to edit the email address after my AOL imap configuration was completed, this wouldn't be an issue, assuming authentication with AOL was being performed correctly with the appropriate username variable specified. My only option right now is to use a different email client such as Thunderbird, where it works just fine. Please help. Thanks.

Answering my own post.

So the trick , at least for the AOL imap servers, is to use the alias as both the email address and username. I didn't think the email alias would be recognized as a valid username but it is, so now I have my alias configured as my email address on Samsung Email again. This solved my problem.
