Gallery Widget PNG is not transparent

I added Gallery widget to my homescreen and selected a png image. It shows the image as transparent in the setting, but on the homescreen it adds black background for no reason. Any way to solve this issue?

I'm using S25 Ultra with One UI 8.0, everything is on the latest version.

Facing the same issue after the update yesterday. Please bring back the old way so we can enjoy some depth effect.

I am also having this problem. Even when I put the background transparency slider all the way to the left, there is still a translucent background. The gallery widget used to have proper transparency for pngs. I hope they fix this issue.

I just wanted to jump in and say as of November 12th 2025 this is still broken for me on Galaxy S25 Ultra One UI 8.0 BUT I've found a work around by using a combo of the notes app and DIY homescreen through the "Home Up" plugin on "Good Lock". The notes app allows for images to be displayed on its widgets and allows for fully transparent backgrounds. Then to ensure its the full size i want for the screen and positioned wherever I want i can use the DIY home function and it works great! Heres an example I made (first ss is what it looks like and the 2nd is the bts)

To clarify a bit more on this, as I was confused myself, it has to be done through the single note widget. Once your note file has your desired image, click and hold the widget to access it's settings and make it transparent. This does work! Thank you Emikiko for finding a workaround for us!! I like your Celeste background as well.
