Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a thought about Samsung Wallet and its support for UK banks, specifically concerning Lloyds Bank.

While Samsung Wallet is incredibly convenient and integrates seamlessly with many major UK banks like HSBC, Santander, Nationwide, and Starling, I've noticed that Lloyds Bank cards aren't yet natively supported. This means that, unlike some other banks, we can't directly add our Lloyds debit or credit cards to our Samsung phones or watches for quick contactless payments.

Currently, the common solution for Lloyds customers using Samsung Wallet is to go through a third-party service like Curve. Curve is quite clever – it lets you consolidate multiple cards, and then you can add your Curve card to Samsung Wallet. This makes it possible to use your Lloyds card indirectly. However, relying on an intermediary like Curve does introduce an extra step and comes with its own set of daily or monthly spending limits, which can sometimes be a consideration for larger transactions.

Why Native Support Would Be Great

For many of us, native support would offer several advantages:

Simplicity: It would remove the need for an additional app or card, streamlining the process.

Directness: Payments could feel more integrated and straightforward.

Convenience: Enjoying the full capabilities of Samsung Wallet directly with our primary bank would be a definite plus.

It would certainly be fantastic to see Lloyds Bank cards directly supported by Samsung Wallet in the future, providing even more flexibility and convenience for their customers who use Samsung devices.

I'm curious to hear if other Lloyds Bank users on Samsung devices feel the same way!

This is typically a decision of the bank and not with Samsung wallet.

With Google pay being the larger ecosystem and running alongside Samsung pay, then some banks are reluctant to go through the process of adding their support to two different Android systems. Google pay is used with Pixel, and other android phones, so for banks is the default integrated option.

In principle I agree with you. I also use Lloyds for some banking. But they are not alone and I seem to remember my barclaycard also did not get supported.

Additionally for some ticketing features for gigs and football matches, these online ticketing only work with google pay.

For all these reasons I use Google Wallet as my default.

Smiley

I use to bank with Lloyds and I think you have to use Google Pay instead of Samsung Wallet as like you say not all banks are supporting Samsung Wallet.

I also observed that BMW’s Digital Key currently doesn't support the Samsung Galaxy ? BMW currently supports Apple’s Digital Key through Apple Wallet (and Apple Watch), but support for Samsung Galaxy Watches — including the Galaxy Watch 8 — lags behind or is entirely absent.

Samsung should work with Google and make them one app now like how they did with quickshare.

Duplication of apps must go.

Also have to ask what benefits the end user

Google Wallet – Where It Excels

Feature Advantages & Broader Appeal

Device / OS Compatibility Works across most Android phones (not just Samsung), plus many Wear OS watches. More universal.
Wider Global & Merchant Acceptance More countries, more merchants, better acceptance in varied parts of the world.
Online & In-App Integration Google’s ecosystem (Gmail, Google Maps, Chrome) often auto-detects passes, tickets, etc. Easier autofill & cross-device sync.
Simplicity / Ease of Use Faster access in many cases; less setup if not tied to a particular hardware brand; generally very reliable.

Why does Samsung feel the need to create a wallet function on their devices when Google has a world wide renowned product?

Apologies I know this is an old thread. Though it should be noted that per curves email today, from December samsung plus in its current format will no longer exist. Meaning you have to migrate your samsung plus account to curve. There should still be support to pay with banks that are not supported natively on samsung via curve but it seems like a step backwards?

Exactly — that’s a very common sentiment among Android users. Samsung has a habit of building its own versions of apps and services (like Samsung Messages, Galaxy Store, Samsung Cloud, and Bixby) even though Google already offers strong equivalents.

From a user’s perspective, it can feel redundant and fragmented — you end up with duplicate apps, settings, and sometimes inconsistent syncing across devices. This can be seen with car digital keys not working on the watches has they are not integrated with Google Wallet.
