I always perform a clean install for new devices or major OS updates, but oddly, with the ZFOLD7 and ZFLIP7, I just restored them with Smart Switch (Wipe the Cache Partition and run Good Guardians). Still, I find it painful, as 95% of the apps require manual login and restoration, unlike Apple iOS.

So after a day, I decided last night to reset and start from scratch, only restoring music, photos, videos and documents, only 175GB 😎

So far, not found any real benefit, as I am beginning to configure my same lame Apple-style icons layout, no widgets, etc...

What does everyone think, are resets no longer needed, just a restore, wipe cache partition, and Good Guardians is good enough?

Hi there @Obsydian

For the most part, I find Smartswitch does the job. There are a tiny number of (less well known) apps that may need a manual uninstall and reinstall afterwards.

I agree though that many apps still require a fresh log in.

That said, as this isn't a regular event, I do take the opportunity to change my passwords at that time too. So it can be double edged but also beneficial. 😊

Thanks guys - at the moment finding zero benefit, I was having some Watch and Dex issues, but I fixed them, just thought A16 U18 would be mega, but its just the now bar and pills.

Also for me, little to no difference using Smartwitch va clean wipe, as all the apps need a re login, only difference is settings, but no real gain I think.

Why can Apple OS be so seamless? I reckon a clean or smart switch is still a 3-hour job for me

I've not been on OneUI long enough to know the transfer didn't take stored logins and app backups as well. That's a shame hopefully it's something that's looked at with future Andriod releases maybe.

I'm trying to avoid needing to do one as I have problems with the USB C on my phone but it's a faff with certain apps like your bank.

I find Smart Switch ,clearing cache partition/Good Guardians works pretty well for me. Not seamless though and Banking apps can be a bit of a hassle.

Know some have encountered issues and prefer a fresh install of Apps but try and avoid that.

Same here. Log in again everything. It's very easy with apple to restore or transfer data from old phone to new.

In the US, Apple changed Apple Care also. Now, by subscription, you can get multiple devices insurance on the same phone, not for every device separately, and it's transferable. Remove old devices and add new devices.

I had no issue upgrading or restoring on iphone in 15 years as long as you stay in your iCloud limits.

Aesthetics will always be subjective but usability makes an accessible device for everyone.

Guess you could argue over certain UI design being a hybridisation of the 2 but if you keep that to Goodlock as options you can please almost everyone. I surprised a visual battery mod wasn't added to Goodlock just to keep the forums quieter 😂
