topic Backing up photos to OneDrive with their 1TB limit in Mobile Apps & Services

Hi there

I am looking to back up the photos on my current Gallaxy S23 Ultra, along with photos from previous phones and digital cameras which I currently have on various storage devices.

Going forward I thought about paying for Microsoft's OneDrive to back up my photos. I know It intergrates well with Samsung's Gallary app.

However, I get the impression OneDrive is capped at 1TB per person. So how does one backup using Galaxy if their is a 1TB limit. I will exceed that already if I add all all my photos to it.

It seems shortsighted to have a 1TB limit whilst selling a phone with up to 1TB storage.

What do other people do?

I take a lot of photos and videos. I have face blindness so photos and video enable me to see again what I've seen previously with my own eyes, but don't remember that well from a visual perspective. I also likely have aphantasia, which is the ability to clearly recall the rich detail of the past. So recording memories to see again is important to me.

I note there was a 1TB version of the S23 Ultra for sale when I purchased my phone. Fill that up and you fill up your OneDrive account.

Tim

Yes, I noticed that, but I wouldn't be surprised if I exceeded 2 TB once I'd uploaded all my old photos from other devices and being in my 40s I still have plenty of time to take more photos and videos. I'm not even using the highest quality video setting on my Samsung phone.

Looking at the packages from Google, they also stop at 2 TB.

In addition to the photos, I have audio recordings. I wish to back up and stuff i recorded off the TV in the past. I can find different cloud providers for those.

The one could service that sync with the Gallary app seems to be OneDrive. I do use the Gallary editing facilities, such as changing the blur settings.

Is that a physical hard drive at home? I have multiple hard drives already, and having purchased another recently, I have enough space.

I just want online backups, too, but ones that I can access via a photo app to share photos with others easily, and one that uses AI to find photos easily. I have a 1 Gbps Internet speed connection at home and a wired network. Even my mobile gets good speed near the router.

So, backing up large amounts of data wouldn't be an issue if I could do it.

Samsung gives you the ability to take videos that are large in file size, so you'd think they would provide the ability to back it all up over time.
