Back to the gym - but no Samsung Wallet support

Hello all, a question, Stupid Gym only supports Apple and Google Wallet, I usually just take a picture of the card and it adds the information to Samsung Wallet and then my watch.

However - I think the Gym works on NFC-type tech and not a card barcode scanner, well at least the car park did not last night.

This probably means I will have to run both Samsung (Barclaycard via Curve) and Google Wallet (Gym Card, do not support Barclaycard), but each fight to be the default.

In addition, none of the machines have Samsung integration, my old gym used Technogym equipment that did.

Overall finding this fitness lark-like EV charging, a different ***** app for everything !!!

Mmm can't help with that one I only use Google wallet...

But do have a curve card in that wallet...is that an option?

Yes - I wasn't aware Google wallet doesn't support Barclaycard but if you have a curve card, and Barclaycard is linked to that... Google Wallet can link to Curve and boom you have your crazy complex link of payment cards into one app.

Might be a workaround....

Wow this is getting super messy.

If moronic Barclaycard not offering any for of Android Contactless wasn't bad enough.

What makes if worse for the other half and the lad, they use Samsung Pass 🫣

Oh dear... Well... as much as it's a faff...it's not the worst thing to have Google wallet for all other cards...

Ditching stupid Barclays is the easiest, but there are too many eggs in that basket.

Or the ***** gym just give old-fashioned cards

Well that was a total waste of time, got to the gym messed around with Google Wallet, gave up asked someone at reception who said that common phrase

"Ah Android never works, here is a card instead"

I am trying to get some information from VTAP (the gym NFC provider), one thing mentioned is Apple NFC is the same, whereas Samsung varies depending upon the handset.

The easiest thing to do is just use your debit card directly, that way no messing around. Magsafe case plus slim Magsafe wallet with your debit card inside. Samsung pay is NFC, I personally haven't found anywhere that doesn't accept it if Apple and Google pay work.

This is more gym access. I tried again today at varying distances, and the same issue was also with most gym machines. My phone and watch NFC is hit and miss

Hi @Obsydian I think the core issue here is whether the gym’s membership / access platform even supports adding passes to Samsung Wallet. Many modern systems already support Apple & Google Wallet out of the box, but Samsung Wallet (and other NFC-based digital passes) are only available if the backend system explicitly integrates with them like Membership Anywhere which many clubs and gyms use for memberships and ticketing lists native wallet ticket support including Apple and Google wallets, and also mentions how it can work with general pass formats that can be extended to other wallets if configured correctly

So if the gym is open to it, they could:

Check whether their membership system supports generic pass files (.pkpass / .json / NFC tokens) that can be delivered to users.
Enable/configure Samsung Wallet support alongside Google & Apple in their pass distribution.
Push the updated passes through their booking/membership portal so NFC access works across devices, not just specific wallets.

it’s not just about the phone/watch; it’s about whether the back-end system actually outputs passes in a format Samsung Wallet can consume.

Sadly like most businesses they pay the initial fee but no maintenance, so still no Google or Samsung Wallet.

I think part of the issue is constant changes from Android, versus Apple less so.
