Hi,

It appears that Google Photos doesn't backup as so much as sync images from Samsung Gallery. This means that if I delete a photo from either my Samsung gallery or Google Photos they also delete from the other! This is NOT what I want as I want backup and stay on GP unless I delete it from there and only there.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue please? Having deleted images from GP it has deleted Photos from Samsung gallery that I did want it to.

I use Google Photo and sync on my S23. Photos get backed up or sync'd soon as taken. Deleted a few large pics from the device but same photos remained on Google Photos.

I didn't find any issue as I don't use Samsung Galaxy.

Thanks. Had GP for years but account full so set up a new one. It has backed up all phone photos many already backed up on other GP account. So I deleted them from new account and it deleted from Samsung gallery! Must be a way to backup (ie a one-way) rather than a 2-way sync!

I am able to replicate this behaviour on S22+ between Google Photos and Samsung Gallery. Deleting from one app, also deletes in the other. Restoring from Samsung Gallery Recycle bin also restores them in Google Photos.

Only way to safely delete photos from Samsung Gallery, is from Google Photos > Your avatar > Free up space.

Seems like deleting individual photos from Samsung Gallery is no longer possible.

Thanks, but that's deleting Samsung Gallery photos from Google Photos, which is not really what I want to do. I want to delete device Photos without affecting what's backed up on Google Photos or vice-versa. Seems it is a sync and not a backup that Google have!

Google responded to me and I tried something that means I can delete from Samsung gallery which doesn't delete from GP, but deleting from GP still deletes from Samsung gallery.

I normally save photos to my external SD card, however, saving to internal memory allows what I explained above. goo.gle/39VUrfT

Steps should be in the link. All I did, was switch in Camera settings to internal memory when taking photos. Then took a photo and also moved a photo to that folder from the gallery.
