Chat settings

I have a galaxy A52 5g and I'd like to sort my messaging out, some of my messages come thru and I can see mine have been delivered and read, this comes up with random contacts but not all and id like this feature with all of my messages..

I've gone into messages, settings, chat and it's switched on but isn't happening.

If I go to the settings within a conversation the chat option is there but not on others?

Very confusing, any advice out there ??

You will only receive chat features with others on android that have it turned on. If there using an iPhone or android device with this feature off. You won't get read or received.

I was in chat with my partner now the option has gone on my phone, if I open his messages to me and tap the 3 dots top right of the chats it did have chat tab but now it'd gone but it's on his to me?
