Sorry thought you were using do-not-disturb, you could use the DND instead of silent (would have the same result) not sure how to have vibration for 'normal' calls and ringing for special contacts.

The point is we want it to do this even while on vibrate or silent not just when it's set to DND I almost ALWAYS have my phone on vibrate but I would like it to still ring or notify for my parents & children no matter what setting. It's def DOABLE because APPLE does it .. Why @samsung are you basically forcing people who otherwise LOVE your product (I would way prefer my Note to an Apple) to move away from it for an emergency situation that you totally could fix?? 😒🤬

Exactly! Totally agree. If you are utilizing silent or vibration, you should still have emergency ring through or ring through capability for certain contacts. Do not disturb is a whole different beast and not optimal. I love my Samsung phones but it is totally ridiculous for this feature.

@Ulvarin: While this has been highlighted in previous replies in this thread, you can achieve the set up you've mentioned via Do Not Disturb mode.

To begin with, head to the Contacts app, tap on a contact that you would like the phone to ring for, then tap the star in the bottom left to add them as a favourite. Repeat this process for all relevant contacts, then head to Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb > On > Exceptions > Calls, messages and conversations > Calls > Favourite contacts only.

Set your remaining exceptions, should you have any, and this will mute all calls and alerts, except for your chosen contacts. Once this has been set up, you can leave it as a permanent feature of your device, and toggle it off with ease via the swipe-down notification panel.

This does not work, at least not in Samsungs latest OS.

Also, there are no longer e "exceptions menu/section" under "Do not disturb" there is just a menu saying "Allowed during Do not disturb"

I have set "Calls and messages" to "Favourite contacts only" there and and even tried "All" but when the phone (Galaxy S21) is in Silent mode (with the Do not disturb active) the phone still does not ring

Are you kidding me right now, yes? Are you related to samsung company devs or marketing team? You all have very big problem, if you cannot see clear very BIG down-sides of your proposed "solution", which is not solution but poorly designed workaround.
At first you loose lot of elasticy and fluid use of android system. If you configure "Do not disturb" for use just as you said in your post (DND on, sounds turn ON) it becoming useless for any other task. Then you cannot quickly unmute or mute (egzemple for notifications not appear completly) totally apps by two-clicks only you need to enter DND menu everytime and changing this, UGH. Second, it is convenient to quickly mute phone on meeting, when it lies in our pocket without needing even to look at it. Last but not least, using DND is totally unintuitive for most users. Most users use case cover buttons for changing sound settings and not DND function, guess why - becouse these buttons was designed mainly for that! A lot of users use just that, just for convenience of use physical buttons. In fact, all user are used to it and as I see here not only I cannot understand Samsung (rather whole android) riddiculous approach. This forum topic is two years old. This problem is as old as android. Just sacrificy 5 minutes in google/bing and you will find hundreds of pages covering this problem. Yes this is problem, still not solved by samsung/android (poor workaround doesn't count). If I think for implementing this, from programmistic perspective it also should not be a big problem (it works on iOS). Please just do something about it, notify your highiest supervisors, give this problem high priority. I really want to have option to let emergency calls with sound for specific contacts. because of that I and a lot of other people going to move to iOS phones. Sadly, because i also prefer Samsung android, but safety is highiest priority. Just do it and stop naming workarounds as solutions.

You can achieve this by:

Go to modes and routines>routines>create new>"if" pick incoming call>select specific contents>"then" select "sound mode and volume"> select "sounds

Change how high you want it.

Learning this was a think makes me want to see what other routines I can do. There is quite alot of options.

No if you assign a ring tone that doesn't work when the phone is on silent.

If you assign a sound and vibration, it will turn off the silent mode. This is mega face palm stupid.

This is a big issue, that I think samsung does not understand.

There is no way to have my phone on vibrate only and ring only for a few select calls.

The choice can't be all or nothing. Ringing is a basic feature of a phone, and a safety issue!

@Samsung - get your sh*t together and FIX this ISSUE ASAP 😡

I own a Reolink security camera designed to alert me when motion is detected. However, this notification may go unnoticed if my device is set to "silent" or "vibrate" mode, which I frequently switch between throughout the day based on my activities and always activate when I'm sleeping. I wish to incorporate an exception for these notifications, similar to the one found in Do Not Disturb mode. Implementing this enhancement shouldn't be overly challenging.

And please, save yourself time and effort if you believe setting the device on DND mode as the default is a good workaround. It's not, for various user experience reasons.

Device used currently: Galaxy S22 Ultra, Android version 14 with "One UI version 6".

You're not paying attention to the thread on multiple levels, and your input only makes things worse. Setting this up in do not disturb IS NOT THE SAME THING as making sure a contact can always get through to you via audible ringtone. Putting your phone volume off is different than setting do not contact. It doesn't take a genius to realize this.

I'm with everyone else. I do not want to use DND because I want my phone to still ring QUIETLY for all contacts. Also, with the volume buttons on the side of the phone that can open all volume controls even when they only control media volume, the phone volume can often be made silent just being in my pocket.....

SO....When I set a custom ringtone for a contact, and there is a volume bar on that contact ringtone setting....WHY doesn't that volume setting for the custom ringtone not override the main phone's volume setting. Instead, it only adjusts the main volume for the phone. this is pointless because if I want to change the ring volume for the phone, I wouldn't do it from the EDIT CONTACTS window.

PLEASE FIX THIS. It's obvious that it can be done since your competitors have already done it.

Thank you
