I have been experiencing issues with android auto on both my old S21 Ultra and S24 Ultra which I don't believe should be a problem given the resources both devices have.

When playing any sort of music or audio, the UI of android auto will become very laggy, causing maps among other things to be completely unusable.

Now, I'm trying to diagnose this problem and attempting to figure out if this is Android Auto itself, the phone, or my car's headunit.

Given the phone should be doing all of the heavy lifting, i heavly suspect this is some sort of issue on Samsung devices, and this is backed up by research I have done.

The video below demonstrates the problem i am having.

https://youtu.be/vgRH-0_iPE8

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the same phone, on a different car? If not, then i may be able to rule out the phone and it might be the headunit

Many thanks for help in advance

Nope. Google are useless and just ask you for bug reports that they can't find an issue with.

I've tried downgrading AA, play services, clearing caches, upgrading to beta AA, resetting my headunit among anything else you can think of.

I believe this is some performance issue caused by Google assistant, as that is very unreliable.

Out of interest, when you experience this problem, can you activate Google assistant, then cancel and see if the lag disappears for a bit? That seems to help on my end

I found this comment:

Funnily enough, i was having issues with AA wired. Fixed it by turning off Ringtone Sync and Music Share in the Bluetooth options menu. Don't know why it fixed it but it did 😂

I tried it and for about 1 hour that I do not have the problem, I think it worked. Maybe you can try it!

Every other phone is working absolutely fine , even my previous mobile Samsung s21 was working perfect but last month I upgraded to S25 ultra I am facing that problem till now. Believe me it's super annoying 😑

It tends to perform a bit better if you unlock the phone once android auto is displayed on the unit, close all open apps and trigger Google assistant. After that, it is more responsive most of the time but still not reliable

I had lagging problem on android auto when Waze was running and whole AA was very unresponsive and running like 30 seconds behind. My head unit is few years old (alpine halo 9 ilx-f903d).

I think google changed so much on android auto 14.X+ versions that bit older head units/cars cannot handle video rendering and starts lagging (there was some warnings on adb debug log).

To get it to work I had to uninstall all updates from android auto via settings > apps > android auto > three dots and then install 13.1 APK version of AA from online. with 13.1 connection works fine now.

Thanks for your response, unfortunately you can only downgrade so far until the app on my phone refuses to work as its tied into some sort of Google server verifying the version I use.

It turns out my headunits firmware was quite out of date so ive got the dealer to update it.

I got the same warning when trying to rollback older 14.x and 15.x versions, but for some reason 13.1 didn't show any warnings. My 13.1 version is now 9 months old and still running fine on S24 Ultra. This might change tho.
