Usb card reader not recognised

Hi I'm trying to transfer photos from my camera to my phone via a usb card reader however while all settings for a usb connection seem to be correct for transferring files it is not recognising and defaulting it to charging usb device. Can anyone shed some light on how I can solve this please?

Has the sd card been formatted to work in the phone I would Insert the SD card into the phone first to format it . If the phone is charging USB card reader then the sd card is only Recognised in the camera. Is the sd card and reader plug and play

Try buying a better quality USB card reader.

Thanks for the response. I was using a card reader as the SD card is standard size I use in my DSLR camera and was needing to transfer the photos to my tablet. I bought the reader from Curry's and have taken it back as it won't work on ym Samsung phone nor tablet. The tech support chap tried using it on his IPhone and it wouldn't bring up the transfer file options either so it could be the reader. I've ordered a cable that is due to arrive tomorrow so fingers crossed!

I'm going to try another connection option as the card reader wouldn't work on the tech support persons IPhone either when I returned to store for some help today. It may be a rubbish reader as you say. Cable ordered due to arrive tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

It's crazy with card readers. I've bought cheap one's and they can work instantly..More expensive one's can and do work as well, but not all of them.

I've gone through a lot to bought a cheap one from eBay working in my phone but has usb has stopped working in free view box it was a 5er 3.0 speed reader

Have you gone into the My Files app? If you see the card showing up in there it should be easy to transfer files very quickly. You should post a screenshot when you go into the My Files app with your USB reader and card plugged in.

Yes it's all fine thanks sorry for the last explanation the USB c drive working. It's just not working in the main USB to free view
