Problem can be reproduced 100%. The problem ALWAYS occurs after 9 to 10 days of system runtime. The problem was observed on ~~5 of 5~~ 6 of 6 Galaxy A14 devices, purchased at different times, ~~no other models testet yet.~~ (A12 tested, see page 5), My Device has already been sent for service once.... See page 3 for experience. The cause for the Problem is unclear. Strong indication that it affects at least the entire Samsung Galaxy A14 model series. Samsung currently seems to be in contact with manufacturer of components to find the cause.

Hello community,

I've had a new Samsung Galaxy 14 smartphone for about 5 weeks and I noticed something strange about the battery consumption. Doesn't have to be a problem, but I find it very unusual. FIRST I would like to mention that I practically do not use the smartphone. It's on my desk 24/7 and I only use it a few minutes in the evening to log into my bank account. That's why I automatically activated the flight mode 23 hours a day using the Samsung routine/modes. The smartphone is set to maximum battery economy. I use my old smartphone for everyday use.
(Edit: Clarification from 09/2024: The problem is NOT related to the flight mode, wifi or seems related to anything else, it happens after 9-10 days of system runtime)

This is why the following picture bothering me now:

-Significantly increased consumption in the last few days, for no apparent reason. This is the second discharge process since I had the device, the behavior was not observed during the first discharge process from my point of view. Update: I have currently charged the device back to 80% and now the battery still seems to be discharging relatively quickly. Yesterday 11 p.m. 80%, today 3 p.m. 74%

-The room temperature was about 2-3 degrees warmer in the last few days, but that shouldn't explain the matter?

-There is NO app usage on the days.

-Android 13 with ONE UI Core-Version 5.1

Update: After Reeboot the Smartphone seems to have a normal battery drain again. I can only wait for it to happen again

It might be down to what's running in the background while your device is sitting ideal, looking at your screenshot your messages app is using alot of battery issue even though you claim you only use it the end of the day to check your banking.

Hello, that is not the case

-In the picture you can see that the battery consumption dropped particularly sharply in three days. One of the 3 days has no app usage listed at all. On 2 days the message app does not appear at all. The first day of the 3 days the message app appears and was active for less than 1 minute and in the background for 56 minutes. However, these should not be exceptional values

-Since I only charge the phone to 80%, the battery consumption of the apps is not reset. The large battery consumption of the message app refers to an earlier period, these are mostly these 8.6%. Strangely enough, during the period when the app(s) were particularly active, there was not this conspicuous battery drop either.

-I think the 8.6% isn't necessarily a lot either, it's only due to the fact that other apps ran even less..I don't even know how the app usage is calculated or should be calculated correctly. The Messages app has been used since it was last fully loaded 6h33. I haven't fully charged my phone yet..

But the funny thing is that I enabled this advanced battery saver mode. On the desktop I have Phone, Messages, Chrome, Settings and Banking App. All other apps are closed and should be closed to the advanced battery saver mode. Of course, various things from the operating system are still running in the background.

Chrome wasn't closed in the background, but that shouldn't be a problem either. I closed Chrome this morning with no change. My next step would be to restart the smartphone and see if anything changes.

Don't forget your phone will lose power for some of the basic things.
Processing mobile data, WiFi and Bluetooth, you also have to consider the GPS and finally screen brightness and how long do you look at the screen.

Of course, Bluetooth, GPS are completely off. Ever since I got the smartphone. WiFi is also completely off. It is only switched on briefly in the evening so that I can go to the banking app for a moment. I turned off all these features AND (importantly) didn't change anything in the last few days either.

That pissed me off so much with the last smartphone that the mobile phone standby was sometimes listed as 70% for the battery consumption. Whether it was calculated correctly is an open question, but you clearly noticed that something like that sucks a lot on the battery. That was also the great thing about the A14, that you can activate the flight mode via time control. Now some other ***** is sucking the battery again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯I can't see where that comes from, though.

Of course, I look at my smartphone once or twice a day to check the battery status. But none of that is worth mentioning if you press the button once and take a quick look at it. As I said, the smartphone is practically not used and everything that should consume the battery is off.

The apps that are showing usage perhaps pop them into the deep sleep option to see if that helps.

And clear the phone's System Partition Section Cache Files.

Restarting the smartphone has currently "fixed" the problem, but it could happen again at any time. Maybe in a weakened form so that it's not so obvious. I would just like to know what's going on and how I can prevent it. I am currently trying to set the smartphone to maximum battery performance and I am also documenting this.

Personally, I don't know exactly what the "Messages" app is for and when I can deactivate it. I very rarely get messages and SMS, but then I have to be able to receive them.

The problem with the Samsung Galaxy A14 and the battery drain persists. The smartphone was last charged 20 days ago and since then I have had the problem exactly twice.

As it currently looks, the problem appears exactly after 9 to 10 days.

I also logged the battery level daily and pictured it below:

I will describe the error again in detail in the next few days and then officially report it to Samsung.

I haven't tried BandOfBrothers' suggestion, but I don't have high hopes either. Unfortunately, I can't reset the smartphone either, because then my banking apps would also have to be set up again. I don't think factory reset solves the problem either.

Today is August 24, 2023, the problem with the battery drain persists.

What will be tried this time:
-The problem will be reported to Samsung as I now assume it's a software issue with some system app or OS.
-The "GSAM Battery Monitor" app was installed to better monitor the CPU load and battery.
-I will confirm that the problem really occurs between day 9 and 10 after reboot.
-If the problem occurs, I won't restart this time, but will try to see which system apps are running and disable them. In theory, quitting the app should also stop the battery drain.
-The self-configured automatic mode for saving energy was deactivated, self-configured routines were deleted (Bixby routines). Maybe the problem has to do with that. But I have to turn on/off the mobile data/cellular connection manually.
-I checked for software updates, there were none. I updated a few apps through the Google Play Store. The Google account was then removed from the smartphone again
-I have disabled fingerprint unlock in case that might be the cause.
-I wiped the cache using the recovery function
-Google Play Services disabled and stopped.
-Google Play Store disabled and stopped.
-Try to Stop Messages, but always activates itself. Change Battery Mode from "optimized" - > "constrained"

Results from the last test:
-The smartphone could survive about 22 days with battery. Without the problem (occurred twice) it would have been massively longer. The battery problem was always detected within 24 hours and the smartphone was restarted immediately. It shouldn't be like that!

It was last loaded at 85% (7/2/2023 8:33 PM) and was loaded again today at 37% (7/24/2023 3:14 PM).

The problem seems to appear after 9 to 10 days of operating system running.

Confirmation again that restarting the smartphone temporarily fixes the problem

For Some reason, Google Play Services and , Messanges shows up in the battery historie. Needs further investigation. On Thursday I received two SMS from the provider that my data volume was renewed. Basically nothing special

Issue reported via the Samsung Members app (27.07.2023) Samsung answered quickly and friedly, forwarded the problem to the responsible department, hopefully they will take care of it and then get back to us.

Reporting the problem took about an hour because I first had to install the Members App and all the necessary logins (Google, Wifi) then write text on the PC because the smartphone is not really suitable for writing (for me). Then transfer the text via .txt to the smartphone, then realize that the character limit for reporting is 1000 characters, shorten the text... Usual fun, It's ok, let's see what happens next.

Unfortunately, I have to check the Samsung Members App regularly on my Smartphone for messages, because you cannot view answers online or get mail? Maybe there is an option, have to take a closer look at the app.

Addition, I noticed another thing:

I checked the Samsung Members app this morning to see if there was already a reply. GSAM Battery Monitor shows the following picture. Below you see CPU and Cellular connection.

Cellular and mobile data enabled 5:48AM so I can log into the Samsung Members app. An SMS was required to log in, after checking the app mobile communications were deactivated again.

Why is the CPU usage so high since then? Messages App was Running 13:46 hours today in the background, now its 19:26 PM

Between 6:00 and 18:00 the smartphone was not used

Today is the 13.08.2023, the Problem with the battery drain persists.

What Samsung did so far:

Results from the last test:

-There were 2x problems with battery drain. Once again exactly 9 to 10 days after reboot and then another problem after I installed the Samsung Members App. Why a premature restart was performed.
-The device lasted 16 to 17 days with one battery charge, if the problems hadn't been again --> significantly longer than 17 days
-GSAM Battery Monitor did not show any other peculiarities. In idle mode, all CPU activities should normally be at ~0%.
-I currently assume that the problem can be reproduced after 9 to 10 days! Possibly only if, like me, you use your smartphone not very often.
-I don't know if there tends to be two problems or if certain activities trigger the problem prematurely.
-Enabling the features specified in the last post did not fix the issue.
-It was last loaded at 85% (7/24/2023 21:36 PM) and was loaded friday at 18% (8/11/2023 14:50 PM).

What will be tried this time:

-I disabled the battery saver mode to rule it out as a cause. I also think that the mode is practically useless in my case. The smartphone is not used all the time, what is the use of the mode?
-A new Android vupdate was installed, see if it does anything.

Today is the 10.09.2023, the problem with the massive battery consumption of the Samsung Galaxy A14 after ~10 days of System runtime still exists.

The Problem is:
-The Samsung Galaxy consumes ~2% battery per day. This value is consistent, reproducible and confirmed by various records. This should be the normal battery drain with my smartphone settings/use case.
-After exactly 9 to 10 days of system running time, battery consumption begins to increase dramatically. from about 2% to even 10% a day, for no reason
-The high battery consumption continues UNTIL you restart the smartphone.
-Theoretically I could get over a month of battery life, but not with the problem

Results from the last test:

-I tried to find something using the “GSAM Battery Monitor” app. A member of the forum drew my attention to the fact that you can display the wakelocks of the apps with certain apps settings. Unfortunately it didn't produce any results. (See attached Table). Best suggestion so far
-I would like to point out again, that the problem CONSISTENTLY/ALWAYS occurred after exactly 9 to 10 days of battery life. This is 100% reproducible.
-The "battery saver mode" is not the reason for the error. I would like to mention here that in my optionion this mode is probably completely useless in my situation. In my opinion, the mode only summarizes certain settings without any benefit to battery life.

What will be tried this time:

-I'm out of ideas, I can only try setting the smartphone completely to factory settings. Maybe calibrate the battery.
-I'm currently in the process of collecting more clear and unmistakable screenshots so that everyone understands the problem and has to rule out other causes directly. So that Samsung Support "easier" can understand what the problem is.

What Samsung did so far: (No adequate/helpfull reaction so far)

-mid/end july: Moderator from the forum described the problem as "strange" and I want to ensure that this get investigated and resolved. Gave the hint to report the error via the Samsung Members App

-28.07 Message was forwarded to the responsible department.
-07.08 The responsible department replied that it was not a problem with the battery and that they would like an up-to-date system print. I ran the error message in the Samsung Members App AFTER a restart. Regardless of that problem, Samsung should be aware of it. I described the error and also linked this post here.
-*10.08.2023 - Error gehts reportet via Samsung Members App, this time with current system footprint .
-16.08.2023 Message from Samsung that nothing could be found and that I should contact remote support myself. I first had to look for remote support because the link provided was incorrect.
-22.08.2023 Because I didn't know how remote support could help me with the problem, I first contacted chat support. An hour spent writing with chat support. I first had to explain the problem. The diagram was commented that the battery consumption is completely normal. The battery was checked for the second or third time. After pointing out that other Samsung employees saw things differently, checked again. The suggestion was made to start the smartphone in safe mode and see if the problem occurs. I activated safe mode. However, had to abort the test early because I needed to transfer money and to do this I had to disable safe mode for the third party apps (the few I have) to work.
-22.08.2023 I then contacted remote support. The employee first wanted to do all the tests that had already been done. I explained the problem again. As far as I remember, the battery was tested again or should be tested. The suggestion was that I should do a "soft reset". A “soft reset” is nothing but a restart, which is what I’ve been doing since the beginning. The suggestion then came that you should take the device to a Samsung service center. This is probably located in Berlin, among other places. You can also send it to Samsung, where Samsung may be able to identify an error...... *no comment*

In my opinion none of us will be able to solve the problem, in my opinion it is a weird hardware or software problem.

I would also be happy if someone could observe/document my problem 1:1. There are some people with battery problems, but unfortunately they are also very non-specific. Especially since people also use their smartphones regularly, which also makes documentation difficult/impossible. The main thing is that the battery consumption suddenly increases massively after 9 to 10 days.

I'm currently doing a long-term test to see how long the battery would last if I restart the smartphone every 9 days. I charged the smartphone to 85% on October 22nd, 2023, today on November 15th I am at 42%. I haven't even optimized the smartphone yet because I completely reset it to factory settings beforehand. I can definitely get a month or more of battery life IF the problem didn't exist. But it's not a solution to restart the thing every 9 days...

I'm only doing all this stuff so I can contact support one last time. After almost half a year, I'm at the point where I can describe the problem in such a way that I've actually tried EVERYTHING and no "It could be because of that. Have you tried that before" doesn't work.

As I said, I would be very happy if someone documented the 9 to 10 battery problem in detail again. Do you have a similar problem or exactly the same problem?

Recently I bought two of these phones. I've noticed that one of them has a battery drain issue, but the other one doesn't. I haven't activated the mobile phone service yet, b/c I think perhaps the one phone might be defective. Like you, I've carefully gone through the config on both phones to make sure nothing is running unexpectedly. At the least, the two are identical now.

I will track the battery status for > 10 days and report my findings. Hopefully it will correlate closely with yours.

Unfortunately, the results of my experiment are not what I expected. Although one phone did run down at a slightly faster rate, they both declined at a fairly steady rate for 14 days. The average daily rate of decline was -3.6% for the better one, and -4.2% for the other.

If I discover anything else in the future, I'll add it here. For now, I'm planning to activate the better phone for my wife and the other one for myself.
